Interpreting the Bible Like Jesus
What did Jesus think about the Scripture? How did He interpret it? Can we learn principles from seeing how He dealt with it?
People often ask questions about whatever is the topic of the day. I will take them to Bible passages that answer their questions. Sometimes, people will reply, "Well, I guess it depends on how you interpret that passage." EXACTLY! So we must come to agreement on what to believe about the Bible as a whole and how to interpret it, before we can have a meaningful conversation on the topic of the day, much less come to agreement on what God has told us about it in the Bible.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus was asked numerous questions. Often He answered them by referring to the Hebrew Scriptures. We can learn principles from seeing how Jesus dealt with it. That is what I have attempted to do with this sermon series.
I believe this is one of the most significant series God has led me to develop in over 30 years of pastoral ministry. I first prepared this series in 1993, and have refined it through preaching and teaching it many times. Here are the recordings of the last time I preached through it, in 2018.
If we claim to follow Jesus, we must approach Scripture as He did!
